Odessa Woman Claims Soldier Shooting was Accidental 10/20/09

An Odessa woman charged in the shooting death of a soldier home on leave from Iraq tells lawmen that it was an accident.
Police say 24-year-old April Thompson and 20-year-old Cody Ryan Patterson were together in his room at his mother's house when he was shot once in the chest.
She says he told her that the gun was real, but that it wasn't loaded.
Police say she cocked the trigger, placed the gun against his chest and fired.
Police say private Patterson then crawled to his mother’s bedroom and died in the doorway.
When police arrived, Thompson was gone.
She was found later and is charged with manslaughter.
She is being held on $125,000 dollars bond.
Patterson's body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy.
Police are still investigating the bond between Thompson and Patterson.
