Midland, Texas - Several law enforcement agencies are joining in the search for a man who escaped from the Midland County Jail.

The U.S. Marshals, a special sheriff's investigator, and the Immigration and Naturalization Service are now searching for 37-year-old Daniel Vargas, after he was released by responding to the name "Vargas" and filling out release paperwork.

The problem is he's not the Vargas who was supposed to be released.

Daniel Vargas is now on the loose with a warrant out for escaping from a secure facility.

He was being held on drug and immigration charges.

Midland, Texas - An inmate held at the Midland County Jail is on the run tonight after he was mistakenly released from the facility early Saturday morning.

At 12:30am, this past Saturday, detention officers were notified by their supervisor to escort an inmate with the last name, Vargas, to the releasing area for release after serving time on a sentence.

The officers called the name Vargas and an inmate responded and was taken to the releasing area and processed for release.

After signing the necessary paperwork the inmate, named Vargas, was released.

At 1:30 PM, Saturday, the jail realized the wrong Vargas had been released and allowed to walk out the front door.

Vargas had forged the other inmate's name.

Felony escape charges have been filed against 37 year old, Daniel Vargas.

He was being held on cocaine possession charges and an immigration hold.

The proper Vargas was released later.

According to Sheriff Gary Painter,

"Additional safeguards and training have been implemented to prevent this situation from occurring in the future".

At this time it is not known whether any county personnel will face punishment after the incident.
